polaroids and infidelity

did you feel the mountains shake,
the walls of the city tremble?
were you there
when the cathedral sank
into the mud of the estuary,
and the waters in their blackness
swept the pages from the library,
words and minds
drenched in the strength of its waves?
the mothers paled,
ghosts in fleshy caves,
rippling muscles weakening
against the wage of the water.
polaroids and plastic cups –
candles and infidelity,
on wallpaper, the swallows fly.
in the sheets,
another flight begins –
red lace and stilettos
tossed down the rocky aisle,
dolls and blankets
ripped through the turbulence of treachery,
soft, new cheeks
lost in the mist
of nature’s revenge on man.
