under smoothest stone engraved
the lines and structures keenly gave
by learned hands and skillful feet
that, in tireless toil did daily meet.
stone unyielding gently wrought
to sculpt a place in which each thought

upon the cold yet flat firm floors

a tree’s branch bent
by the weight of child’s play.
as deformed as his spine
was the mind of him who lies
among cathedral’s glory
