i am a mount, and you will climb,
yet soon will find it wasting time.
for yes, you get a lovely view
and a leg workout or two,
but my peak stands all on its own.
i can sustain my life alone –
you are merely stopping by
to boast and brag you climbed this high,
but when you leave, your footprints fade.
your voice is lost among the glade.
i occupy my own sweet space
unmoved by any bright red face.
come and climb, and have your fun –
i will not miss you when you’re done.
