a psalm

the world will want to stamp you out
squash your hopes, and choke your dreams
it will tell you to go home, give up
and rip you up along your seams
but there is hidden hope to find
if only you will chance it
a hope to give you limitless joy
and endless, boundless comfort
the days may still be long and slow
the world around you cruel
the toil will toughen, without relent
but your heart will hold a jewel –
the richness of a friendship
with one who thought up land and sea
he walks with you in days of dark
and holds you tenderely
he keeps you under feathered wing
and listens to your cries
your laughter and your grief are heard
by the one who made the skies.
